New precinct highlights Victorian aviation strengths

The Victorian Coalition Government has congratulated the Little Group on its announcement that it will establish a world-class aviation precinct at Melbourne Airport.

Last March, the Little Group signed a contract to purchase the 20-hectare John Holland Aviation Services site at Melbourne Airport and the facility is now attracting a range of executive jet and maintenance services supporting the broader aviation and aerospace sectors.

Minister for the Aviation Industry Gordon Rich-Phillips said the new precinct would also attract complementary services that would enhance Melbourne Airport’s reputation as a specific maintenance and training hub in the Asia Pacific region.

“The Little Group’s aviation precinct will be world-class and one of the largest of its type in Australia, with hangars capable of accommodating wide and narrow body jet aircraft,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.

“The facility will provide an excellent opportunity to concentrate many of Victoria’s aviation and aerospace businesses in the one location, creating an integrated hub providing new efficiencies in the maintenance of aircraft.

“This investment by the Little Group is a vote of confidence in Victoria’s mature aviation and aerospace sectors, which are internationally recognised for their skills, knowledge and research capabilities.”

Mr Rich-Phillips said that aviation and aerospace in the Asia Pacific region are growing faster than in any other part of the world, and the Napthine Government is committed to supporting the sector as it accommodates future demands on engineering, aircraft maintenance and training.

“Aviation is already worth more than $1 billion to the Victorian economy each year and we want to encourage additional investment and economic activity wherever possible,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.

“The Coalition Government will continue to work with the aviation industry to expand investment and employment opportunities across the sector.”
