Minister for the Aviation Industry Gordon Rich-Phillips today announced a $100,000 Victorian Government grant to upgrade the St Arnaud Airport.
“St Arnaud Airport is important to the local community for its critical role in emergency air ambulance services and during bushfires and floods,” Mr Rich‑Phillips said.
“This region is also a growing tourism region and attracts Victorian, interstate and international tourists and there is greater potential to see new hangars and small businesses established at the airport.”.
“The $100,000 grant will help reseal and waterproof the main runway and taxiway and enable new line‑markings to be painted.
“The upgrade will provide for gravel sheeting to be installed between the taxiway and hangars to allow for all weather access to the runway.
“These upgrades will ensure that St Arnaud Airport continues its important role in the local community and wider region and that it offers greater potential to help grow the local economy,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
Liberal Candidate for Ripon Louise Staley welcomed the benefits this announcement will bring to the local St Arnaud community.
“The Coalition Government’s Regional Aviation Fund (RAF) is investing in aviation infrastructure so that regional communities like St Arnaud can derive greater benefits in the area of tourism, air freight, emergency services and business,” Ms Staley said.
To date, the RAF has committed $17.2 million for upgrades to 22 regional aerodromes across the state.
