Victorian Coalition welcomes UK investment in Melbourne

Up to 20 new jobs will be created as UK-based business technology services company WM360 looks to base its Australian headquarters in Melbourne.

Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips said that WM360 is expanding in the Australian and Asia-Pacific markets and has chosen Melbourne as its Australian headquarters due to its strength as a leading regional ICT hub.

“Victoria’s $34.2 billion ICT sector  employs more than 91,000 people and leads Australia through a critical mass of companies, research bodies and world-class technology ecosystem,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.

“Victoria also has a highly-skilled ICT workforce, thanks to leading education and training organisations with a very strong ICT focus, including the SharePoint Factory based at LaTrobe University’s Bendigo campus.”

Mr Rich-Phillips said that despite challenging global economic conditions, more and more technology companies are making significant investments in Victoria.

“Since coming to office, the Victorian Coalition Government has helped facilitate more than $1.1 billion in new technology-related investment, creating more than 5,000 jobs in key areas like software development, enterprise management software and cloud computing,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.

“WM360 is the latest in a long list of ICT companies announcing expansion plans in Victoria since the start of the year, including Web Marketing Experts, Capgemini, SAP, IBM, Dexler, Zendesk, EdTrin, Asurion, Cyient and Servion Global Solutions.

“These investments are creating new high-tech jobs across the community and further highlight the technology sector’s impact in growing the Victorian economy.”

WM360’s Melbourne Managing Director Tom Hiscutt said that Melbourne offered the very best in Australian climate, culture and corporate enterprise, making it the perfect location for the company’s Australian launch pad.

"As a company founded in London by an Australian, a New Zealander and a Welshman, opening in Melbourne represents a 'return home' for WM360. I'm very excited to be working with the WM360 global team, which has a proven track record of completing projects which deliver real value to its clients' businesses,” Mr Hiscutt said.

WM360 provides innovative, world-class intranets and business systems using Microsoft SharePoint, currently delivered by over 60 people in six offices in five countries.
