Andrews continues to send power prices soaring

Opposition Press Releases

Labor’s reckless energy policies have seen Hazelwood close, Victoria’s energy generation capacity cut by 22 per cent and are smashing households on average an extra $300 on their energy bills this year.

According to energy market analysts UBS, Labor’s forced closure of Hazelwood has so far seen wholesale electricity prices increase over 25 per cent to more than $100 per megawatt hour.

UBS analyst Nik Burns stated that “we expect potentially up to a 40 per cent increase for consumers over three to four years.”

On the Neil Mitchell program on 3 November 2016, Daniel Andrews said in relation to the impact of Hazelwood’s closure to Victorian households: “any increase will cause pressure on household budgets, I acknowledge that. But the numbers are more in the order of 4% or 85 cents a week.”

Daniel Andrews ideological mission to replace coal power stations with intermittent energy generators is putting more cost of living pressure on Victorians.
