$250,000 lighting upgrade for Griff Hunt Reserve

Opposition Press Releases

State Member for Croydon, David Hodgett MP, announced that if elected, a Matthew Guy Government will contribute $250,000 towards the upgrading of lighting at Griff Hunt Reserve in Croydon North.

The installation of extra lighting at the ground will allow these local clubs to train, practice and play safely at night time. Additionally, the expanded hours will enable the night use of both pitches, allowing the creation of junior and women’s rugby teams.

Griff Hunt Reserve based in the heart of Croydon North is growing at a rapid rate and only the Liberal Nationals will support local sports clubs instead of spending $225 million on Etihad Stadium like the Andrews Labor Government.

Comments attributable to Member for Croydon, David Hodgett:

“This reserve is used by a number of sporting clubs, including Maroondah United Football Club, Maroondah Rugby Club and Ainslie Park Cricket Club.

This upgrade will improve ground access for hundreds of club members and is a fantastic win for our local sporting clubs. I am proud to have advocated for this result.

Local sporting groups are an integral part of our community. This election commitment reinforces the Coalition’s commitment to grassroots sport through funding local projects.”

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien:

“There’s nothing fair about handing taxpayer money over to the AFL to upgrade Etihad Stadium when we don’t have adequate sports facilities here for Griff Hunt Reserve.

Redirecting this taxpayer money to grassroots football, rugby, netball, cricket, basketball, tennis and soccer clubs will benefit hundreds of thousands of Victorians.

Only a Liberal Nationals Government will continue to support our local sporting clubs and give them the funding they deserve.”
