Liberals listen: traffic lights for Killara Road, Coldstream

Opposition Press Releases

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will commit $4.4 million to install traffic lights at the intersection of Maroondah Highway and Killara Road in Coldstream, improving safety and easing congestion at this dangerous intersection.

The Coldstream community is concerned at how dangerous it is for vehicles entering Maroondah Highway from Killara Road and Station Street. Local residents, traders and Coldstream CFA volunteers have called for traffic lights for over a decade to ease congestion and enable safe navigation through this area for locals, tourists, transporters and first responders. Currently motorists and pedestrians take unnecessary risks to get out into the traffic or cross the road for the shops or bus stops.

This announcement adds to the Liberal Nationals commitment to build both North East Link and East West Link, as well as removing 55 of Melbourne and Geelong’s busiest and most dangerous intersections through grade separations.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Roads and Infrastructure, David Hodgett:

“Bridget Vallence has been doing extensive work with the Coldstream CFA, Coldstream Voice, local residents and traders, and advocated strongly to secure funding to install traffic lights at Coldstream's busiest and most dangerous intersection.

The Liberal Nationals are committed to reducing our road toll and the incidence of injury or death, as a result of unsafe local roads, by making the right investments in our road networks.”
