Get Victoria Moving: Southern Link Road for Sunbury

Opposition Press Releases

The Liberal Nationals will help get congestion back under control in Sunbury by building a third crossing over the Sunbury rail line.

Melbourne is jam packed with a population of five million and growing by 2,700 people a week with much of that growth occurring in places like Sunbury.

Daniel Andrews has failed to plan for the transport needs of the Sunbury community and has allowed for out of control, unchecked population growth to choke our streets and growth areas.

That’s why a Liberal Nationals Government will cut congestion in the heart of Sunbury and invest $40 million towards the development of a Southern Link Road, providing a third crossing over the rail line and linking Vineyard Road to Sunbury Road.

Currently there are only two major roads in Sunbury crossing over the railway line, forcing much of the traffic from growing areas south of the Sunbury CBD to converge around the CBD to get in and out of Sunbury.

The Southern Link Road route will be finalised by the new Sunbury Council and VicRoads, with input from the local community.

The Liberal Nationals have also committed to remove the Gap Road/Horne Road intersection and remove the Gap Road (Station Street) level crossing as part of the Traffic Light Removal Project to get traffic in Sunbury moving again.

This announcement builds on the commitment by the Liberal Nationals to contribute $1 million towards a multilevel carpark in the centre on Sunbury, as well as building 300 new carparks for commuters.

Only the Liberal Nationals will ensure our growing suburbs are connected and get back in control of road infrastructure needs and get them done earlier than ever before.

Comments attributable to Leader of the Liberal Party, Matthew Guy:

“Traffic congestion is out of control in Sunbury.

I will get back in control of Sunbury’s traffic woes.

Victorians can choose more of the same catch-up, band-aid ideas from Daniel Andrews, or they can choose my comprehensive plan to invest in vital infrastructure projects like.”
