Raising awareness of mental health in young sports people

Opposition Press Releases

Reaching out to young men and woman in a relaxed and supportive environment like their sports clubs is a great way to begin the conversation about mental health and how to watch for the signs of mental illness in friends and team mates.

That’s why the Liberal Nationals will support the creation of a documentary by GameFace, a sporting social media network, focused on mental health in young people.

The $35,000 investment will help to fund a 6 episode documentary on mental health in young sports people featuring the Karingal Football and Netball Club in Frankston.

With one in seven young men between the age of 16 – 24 experiencing depression or anxiety each year, it’s paramount that we lift the stigma of mental illness.

The Liberal Nationals are committed to supporting our young people and ensuring they feel supported in their communities

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Emma Kealy:

“This is incredibly important funding that will help local communities reach their young men and woman and help the great work of GameFace continue.”
