Put your house on it: More new taxes coming under Labor

Opposition Press Releases

Labor Treasurer Tim Pallas has confirmed what Victorians already knew: that there will be even more new taxes if Daniel Andrews is re-elected tomorrow.

Speaking with Neil Mitchell on 3AW this morning, Tim Pallas was refreshingly honest about Labor’s plans.

MITCHELL: A simple answer. Can you guarantee over the next 4 years no increase in taxes ahead of inflation?

PALLAS: No means no.

MITCHELL: You can’t guarantee it?

PALLAS: No.

If Daniel Andrews is re-elected tomorrow, Victorians can bet their house on him introducing even more new taxes to pay for his unfunded election promises.

Government documents reveal Labor will introduce:

• A tax on the family home of $435 per year – every year for thirty years – with no exemptions and no deferrals;
• A tax of $3,000 on new apartments;
• A property levy on commercial businesses of $21 per square metre per year – every year for thirty years – with no exemptions and no deferrals;
• A property levy on industrial businesses of $10 per square metre per year – every year for thirty years – with no exemptions and no deferrals;
• Higher car rego fees;
• Parking taxes at local train station car parks;
• Higher payroll taxes on jobs; and
• Public transport tolls.

Despite this, Daniel Andrews still refuses to tell Victorians how much extra they will be forced to pay.

There is a clear choice tomorrow: tax cuts under the Liberal Nationals – or higher debt and even more new taxes under Labor.
